Matthew Fitzpatrick and Caddie Billy Foster Separate

After shooting +6 over the first two rounds to miss the cut at The Players Championship, Matthew Fitzpatrick and longtime caddie Billy Foster have officially parted ways. Foster confirmed the split on X on Saturday afternoon stating, “Well, after six great years all good things come to an end,” said Foster. “This game never stops to frustrate you and infuriate you! Unfortunately times change and ultimately it is the caddie or the coach that has to accept results are not good enough and when you stop enjoying what you are doing, it is time for a change. Thanks Matt, we had a great run and who knows where the next chapter will go. Onwards and upwards.”

Foster had been working part-time with Fitzpatrick in 2025, but the decision to split was abrupt, with Foster now officially off the bag ahead of the upcoming Masters. The struggle continues for Fitzpatrick as his best finish so far in 2025 is a T-22.

A veteran of 40 years, Foster has caddied for legends like Seve Ballesteros, Lee Westwood, and Darren Clarke. However, Fitzpatrick’s 2022 U.S. Open Victory at The Country Club in Brookline was his only major title as a caddie. With Foster’s stacked resume, it shouldn’t be difficult to find a new player, and I am interested to see who Fitzpatrick will hire next.
